Growing Together & Bearing fruit for All . . .

 gardeningseniors_sept2010
Designed using the concept of a sustainable perma-garden, this very special garden has a self sustaining crop of plants that will help feed the TIS school and community.  Appropriately for our garden, the specific design is that of a layered Forest Garden, producing differing varieties of food most months of the year.  Permaculture (PERMAnent agriCULTURE) is a sustainable design system stressing the harmonious interrelationship of humans, plants, animals and the Earth.

This seasonal, wholesome food is available for the school community, the Judson community, and others involved with the Fairhill Campus.  The garden is also a place for children and older adults to share their passion for nature and gardening, to learn from nature, and to learn from each other.  Health benefits include exercise, laughter and emotional bonding - just to mention a few.

The Edible Forest Garder also provides teachers and administrators an opportunity to integrate the many lessons of science, nature and garden economics into the curriculum of the school while giving many volunteers an opportunity to experience the rewarding pleasure of growing one’s own food.

Our garden needs many volunteers.  Currently volunteers have come from The Intergenerational School (TIS), Fairhill Partners, Case Western Reserve University, local businesses and neighbors from the surrounding community.  To become one of the people helping this garden grow, contact Eric McGarvey at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
