Curriculum

The learning goals and objectives that are intended to be achieved by the end of fourth grade in the Ohio Model Curriculum (and which form the basis for the fourth grade proficiency tests) are includes in The Intergenerational School developmental curriculum. However, the TIS curriculum objectives are arranged in a 4-stage developmental sequence rather than by grade level. Thus, by the end of the five years at TIS, the student will have achieved the same learning objectives. Progress through the
curriculum is define by meeting benchmarks of performance n each academic area for each stage of development. The
developmental stages and benchmarks have the following approximate correspondence to grade:

Emerging - K to 1
Beginning - 1 to 2
Developing - 2 to 3
Refining - 3 to 4
Applying - 5 to 6

Satisfactory progress is defined by making continuous progress toward achieving the learning objectives of each stage, and doing so within the age/grade framework specified above. For example,
a student who would be in the 2nd grade in a traditionally structured school, would be expected to be working on objectives at the beginning or developmental stage. Such a student would not be making expected and satisfactory progress if he or she had no mastered the emerging stage objectives and would be making highly accelerated progress if working at the refining stage.
