Volunteer Opportunities at the Intergenerational School

The Intergenerational School incorporates community volunteers into the life of the school. Volunteers perform a variety of tasks from painting and setting up classrooms to mentoring young readers and writers. Many volunteer hours were contributed through our collaboration with such organizations as Case Western Reserve University and Fairhill Center, including the Intergenerational Resource Center.

Reading Mentor: Reading Mentor: Read one-on-one with students, reinforcing a love of books through the sharing of wonderful children's literature. Reinforce skills based on the developmental level of the student. This requires attending a training session and a commitment to at least one 2-hour morning mentoring session weekly.

Arts Mentor: Help talented or particularly interested students to develop artistically (visual art, instrumental music, theater, dance, etc). Depending on the interest of the mentor, this may be a small group or individual session. Days and times are flexible.

Hobby Club: Children today spend a lot of time with TV, computer, and video games. They seldom pursue a hobby. Do you have a hobby that you could teach to one or more interested youngsters? Possibilities could range from chess, checkers, knitting, embroidery, model building - to anything appropriate for children up to the age of 10. Days and times are flexible.

Librarian or Library Aide: Experience with or willing to learn shelving and operating a computerized check out system.

Technology Assistant: Maintain and trouble shoot school computers.

Educator Emeriti: Retired educators with experience in special education, school psychology, counseling, language development, or classroom experience are sought to provide extra assistance to individual students.
